Abstract

Rapid social and cultural change in multicultural schools requires teachers to act not only as instructors but also as moral role models who contextualize Islamic values within contemporary educational settings. While prior studies highlight the importance of religious character education, little attention has been given to teacher exemplarity as a practical mechanism for internalizing inclusive Islamic values in diverse classrooms. This study explores how teacher exemplarity shapes students’ attitudes and social interactions in heterogeneous environments. Using a descriptive qualitative approach grounded in community service–based research, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and reflective documentation, and were analyzed thematically. Findings indicate that teacher exemplarity operates through three interrelated dimensions: pedagogical flexibility toward diversity, empathetic communication that models respectful dialogue, and inclusive moral practice in daily interactions. These dimensions encourage students to view Islamic values as ethical principles compatible with diversity, fostering tolerance, mutual respect, and collaborative problem-solving. The study suggests that strengthening teacher exemplarity requires institutional support through reflective training, value-based mentoring, and the integration of inclusive Islamic ethics into everyday teaching practices.
