Abstract

This study is based on the importance of improving students’ maharah kalam through the habituation of Arabic expressions in daily school activities, which is expected to create communicative and applicable learning at MI Ihyaul Islam. This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the habituation method of Arabic expressions in improving students’ speaking skills (maharah kalam) at MI Ihyaul Islam. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving the head of the madrasah, Arabic language teachers, and students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested using triangulation techniques. The findings show that the continuous implementation of the habituation method of Arabic expressions is able to improve students’ speaking skills, particularly in using simple sentences in daily school activities. The improvement is reflected in students’ confidence, fluency, and active participation in communicating in Arabic. In addition, the Arabic expression pocket book serves as a supporting learning medium that helps students understand, memorize, and independently practice Arabic expressions. The contextual habituation of Arabic communication also creates a simple bi’ah lughawiyah that supports communicative and applicable learning. Thus, this study concludes that the habituation method combined with the use of a pocket book is effective in supporting the development of students’ maharah kalam in Islamic elementary schools through direct communication practice in daily life.
