Abstract

Clinical competence in performing invasive procedures such as urinary catheterization represents a crucial aspect of nursing education, as deficits in skill mastery risk lowering self-efficacy and clinical confidence among nursing students. This quantitative study employing a cross-sectional design aimed to analyze the relationship between urinary catheterization competence and self-efficacy among 5th and 7th-semester nursing students at Nurul Jadid University, Paiton, Probolinggo. The study population and sample comprised all 140 students selected via a total sampling technique, with data gathered using a urinary catheterization competence questionnaire and the General Self-Efficacy (GSE) scale, analyzed via Spearman's Rank correlation test. Results indicated that 33.5% of respondents were categorized as competent and 35% exhibited high self-efficacy, with a statistically significant moderate positive correlation between urinary catheterization competence and self-efficacy ($p = 0.000; r = 0.335$). The study concludes that students with higher procedural competence tend to demonstrate greater self-efficacy in executing clinical actions, underscoring the necessity for continuous laboratory skill training to simultaneously enhance both clinical competency and self-confidence.
