Abstract

The issue of student discipline in coastal areas presents a significant educational challenge due to the flexible social characteristics of the community and a reduced orientation toward structured time. This qualitative case study aims to analyze the social characteristics of coastal students, identify the forms and underlying factors of low discipline, and examine the implementation of a humanistic integrative approach in fostering student discipline at MA Syarief Hidayatullah, Pondok Kelor, Paiton, Probolinggo. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and institutional documentation, and subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis.

The results indicate that low discipline is primarily manifested in habitual tardiness, non-compliance with school regulations, and poor time management skills, which are heavily influenced by the cultural and familial norms of the coastal environment. However, the application of a humanistic integrative approach—incorporating persuasive dialogue, empathy, teacher role modeling, and personal guidance—effectively fosters the intrinsic internalization of discipline values among students. The study concludes that nurturing student discipline in coastal educational contexts is substantially more effective when conducted in a contextual and humanistic manner, focusing on the sustainable strengthening of personal self-awareness.
