Abstract

Dar's, N.F.N. 2026. An Analysis of Comments on Educational Content in
English Vocabulary Learning Content on the TikTok Account
@Zulfazida. undergraduate program Nurul Jadid University. Advisor :
Dr. Bradhiansyah T.S., M.Pd.
Key word: TikTok, Comment, Vocabulary Learning, Account @Zulfazida
TikTok has become one of the most widely used social media platforms for
English language learning, enabling users to interact through the comment section
of educational content. However, limited studies have explored the characteristics
of audience comments and their communicative purposes in English vocabulary
learning. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the types of audience comments
and analyze their communicative purposes in English vocabulary learning content
uploaded on the TikTok account @Zulfazida. This study employed a qualitative
content analysis design. The data consisted of 94 public comments collected from
11 English vocabulary learning videos on the TikTok account @Zulfazida through
documentation techniques. The data were analyzed by categorizing the comments
into five types and interpreting their communicative purposes using Speech Act
Theory proposed by Searle (1979). The findings revealed five types of comments:
Opinion Comments, Question Comments, Answer Comments, Appreciation
Comments, and Correction Comments. Furthermore, the comments reflected five
communicative purposes: expressing opinions, asking for clarification, providing
answers, expressing appreciation, and correcting information. These
communicative purposes were primarily realized through Assertive, Directive,
and Expressive speech acts. The findings indicate that the TikTok comment
section functions not only as a space for audience responses but also as an
interactive learning environment that supports English vocabulary learning
through meaningful communication and learner participation.
