The effectiveness of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement in nurul jadid foreign language development institute (FLDI), undergraduate program Nurul Jadid University. Advisor (I) Syaiful Islam, M.Pd, Advisor (II) Bradhiansyah Tri Suryanto, M.Pd.

This thesis focused on the effectiveness of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement in FLDI. The formulation of the problem in this thesis: was there significant different in students Reading comprehension achievement in FLDI between those who were taught using short stories and that of using reading text materials? This study aimed to determine the effect of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement in FLDI. The population in this study were elementary students in FLDI. Samples were taken by population sampling. The number of samples were 15 students. This study used a pre-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. Pre-test was given to determine the basic ability of students' reading skills and post-test was given to determine the improvement of students' reading ability after being given treatment. The results of this study indicate that there was a significant different in students Reading comprehension achievement in FLDI taught using short stories. The results of data analysis show that post-test (82.7333) was higher than pre-test (66.6667). This showed that the effectiveness of using short stories in increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement in FLDI.
