Speaking is "the process of building and sharing meaning through the use of verbal and non-verbal symbols, in a variety of contexts. Speaking is a crucial part of second language learning and teaching, it's an art of communications and one of 4 productive skills, that must mastered in learning foreign language. Many problems occur when communication takes place, from both the speaker's and listener's point of view. some methods are needed in enhancing speaking skill. one of them is role play. Role play is useful for practicing appropriate behavior in more complex social interactions where students must choose from a wide range of possible behaviors. in this study, the researcher focused on implementin role play. the research problem in this research is How does role play strategy improve the student’s speaking skill?. The research design in this study is classroom action research. The participants are 15 students of MTsN 1 Probolinggo class Ixc. The data collections are test and observation. The data analysis is using statistical technique to know the students’ improvement from the pre-test and post-test. The result of this study found that This can be seen from the observational data of students' English speaking skills obtained using the role play method which showed a significant increase. It is shown by the acquisition of the average score of students' English speaking skills at the 1st pre-test meeting, which is 52%, while as learning activities progress at each meeting, the students' English speaking skills are increasing, it can be seen from the 4th meeting in the amount of 81.3%.
