Abstract

Utami, Icuk Putri. 2023. Discourse Analysis of Environmental Values in Tere Liye’s Si Anak Spesial. Undergraduate Program, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor (I) Dr. Tirmidzi, M.Pd., Advisor (II) Bradhiansyah Tri Suryanto, M.Pd.

Keywords: Discourse Analysis, Novel, Environmental Values.

Teaching English using literary works, particularly novels, has proven effective in increasing students' enthusiasm for language learning. To fully comprehend the content of a novel, the competence to conduct discourse analysis is essential. This study aims to describe the discourse presented in Tere Liye's novel, Si Anak Spesial, by employing psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic approaches. The results of the study demonstrate that the discourse of environmental values is deeply depicted through the narrative. These values emphasize how each individual develops a character of environmental awareness, which includes the processes of instilling, nurturing, and preserving the natural surroundings. Furthermore, the novel also reflects social environmental values, such as social solidarity and community care. This analysis illustrates that the story serves not only as a literary work but also as a medium to convey vital messages regarding the preservation of both the natural and social environments.
