Abstract
Diana Margareta, Yumna. 2023. Research Trends in English Education Students’ Final Skripsi: A Systematic Review. Undergraduate Program, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor (I) Durratul Hikmah, M.Pd., Advisor (II) Syaiful Islam, M.Pd.
Keywords: Research Trends, Skripsi, Systematic Review, Research Roadmap.
This study aims to identify research trends among English Education students and evaluate the alignment of their research with the department's Research Roadmap and the current curriculum. The population consisted of 74 undergraduate theses (skripsi) from the 2021–2022 graduating cohorts. Using a qualitative non-interactive method, this study employed a systematic review design. The researcher served as the primary instrument, collecting data through observation and documentation. The data analysis followed a modified PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) flow to categorize the topics, methods, and future research opportunities.
The findings reveal that the majority of research focused on English Education and Teaching (68 titles), while a smaller portion centered on Linguistics (6 titles). In terms of methodology, qualitative research was predominant (38 titles across both years), followed by quantitative methods (23 titles), and Classroom Action Research (13 titles). Analysis of keywords showed a shift in trends: in 2021, the most frequent topics were vocabulary mastery, error analysis, and mnemonic songs; whereas in 2022, reading comprehension emerged as the leading theme alongside narrative inquiry and writing. This study demonstrates that while vocabulary and speaking remain consistent interests, there is a clear evolution in thematic focus and methodological preferences. These results provide valuable insights for lecturers and future researchers to identify gaps in the Research Roadmap and explore untapped research opportunities at Nurul Jadid University.
