Motivation is one of the most significant things in the process of teaching-learning, especially in English. This study aimed to empirically investigate students’ motivation in learning English. The research data were collected by interviewing the seven students of LPBA Nurul Jadid who often get achievements in various competitions during this academic year. This research used qualitative research, which employed a case study approach. The data were analyzed by exploring and categorizing the students’ motivations in learning English. Based on the interview results, there were various reasons why the students keep their spirit in learning English, they are; first, English is very important for them, especially to face their future. Second, English is one of the international languages spoken across the world. Third, they want to be able to speak English very well. Fourth, they want to explore and continue their education in abroad. Last, they sometimes do keep learning English because of the supportive environment and punishment given by the teachers. Those reasons are included into extrinsic motivation. Therefore, the results of this study showed that mostly of LPBA students were motivated by extrinsic motivation in learning English.
