Abstract
Astutik, Yayuk (2022). The Teacher’s Roles in Bridging the Gap Between Available Materials and the Needs in ESP (A Case Study at SMK Mambaul Ulum Paiton Probolinggo). Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department, Nurul Jadid University.Advisor (I): Mochlis Ekowijayanto, M.Pd.Advisor (II): Mohammad Sofyan Adi Pranata, M.Li.
Keywords: English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Teacher’s Roles, Accounting Class.
This research aims to analyze: (1) the teacher’s roles in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) within a vocational school setting, specifically for the accounting class at SMK Mambaul Ulum; and (2) the implementation of ESP materials for the accounting course at the same institution. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on the English teacher of the eleventh-grade accounting class. The researcher explored ESP course development, covering teacher roles, instructional materials, and learning activities.
The findings reveal that the teacher’s roles in the eleventh-grade accounting class include: explaining lessons integrated with accounting topics, guiding students through oral classroom activities, encouraging active participation, and providing corrective feedback. Furthermore, the results indicate that the teacher designs a systematic ESP course development prior to classroom instruction. This development utilizes Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and incorporates project-based learning, specifically in the form of oral production activities and role-plays depicting various professional scenarios in the accounting field.
