Abstract
Zahro, Amelatus (2023). The Teachers’ Strategies Used at BPK in Teaching Speaking at MTs Nurul Jadid. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor (I): Syaiful Islam, M.Pd. Advisor (II): Mochlis Ekowijayanto, M.Pd.
Keywords: English Teacher’s Strategies, Speaking Skill, BPK.
Speaking is a fundamental element of communication and a critical skill that English learners must master. The success of students in acquiring this skill is significantly influenced by the instructional process and the strategies employed by the teacher. Consequently, it is essential for English teachers to implement effective strategies to develop students' speaking abilities. This research aims to: (1) describe the strategies used by teachers at BPK in teaching speaking at MTs Nurul Jadid, and (2) describe the students’ responses toward these strategies.
This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. The subjects of the research were English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers, with students serving as informants, supported by relevant documentation. Data were collected through systematic observations and interviews. To ensure data validity, the researcher used methodological and source triangulation. The data were then processed through technical and general qualitative data analysis.
The results of this research indicate that the primary strategies used in teaching speaking at BPK are conversation and discussion. These strategies are implemented to encourage students to express their opinions and considerations while simultaneously building their self-confidence. The students’ responses generally indicate that the strategies are interesting and useful in supporting their speaking mastery. However, a small number of students expressed less interest in these strategies due to a personal dislike for group work and difficulties in vocabulary selection.
