Abstract
Syarifah, Eva Lailatus. 2023. Students’ Perceptions of the Use of English Movies on Vocabulary Mastery. Undergraduate Program, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor (I) Bradhiansyah Tri S., M.Pd., Advisor (II) Abdullah Al Anis, M.Pd.
Keywords: Students’ Perception, English Movie, Vocabulary Mastery.
This study aims to investigate students' perceptions regarding the use of English movies to enhance vocabulary mastery. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data. The study was conducted within the Excellent Program of Natural Science at MA Nurul Jadid, Paiton, Probolinggo. Questionnaires and interviews served as the primary instruments for data collection, which were subsequently analyzed to derive comprehensive conclusions.
The findings indicate that students hold a highly positive perception of using English movies as a tool for vocabulary development. The participants characterized English movies as a highly recommended learning medium that effectively assists in vocabulary acquisition. Furthermore, the results show that watching movies increases learning motivation and prevents boredom in the classroom, providing an enjoyable atmosphere for language acquisition.
Students predominantly agreed that English movies exposed them to a significant amount of new vocabulary and demonstrated practical usage in context. Consequently, this media helps improve their vocabulary acquisition, which ultimately supports their ability to apply new terms in daily speaking and writing activities.
