Literature, particularly the novel, plays a prominent role in capturing the attention of both students and teachers as connoisseurs of literary works. However, to fully understand and critically evaluate the essential content of a novel, the competence to conduct discourse analysis is significantly required. This study aims to describe and analyze the narrative structure and the discursive character education values portrayed in Tere Liye’s novel, Si Anak Pintar. To achieve these objectives, the researcher employs a psycholinguistic approach based on the framework by John Mandler and Nancy Johnson, alongside a sociolinguistic approach by William Labov and Joshua Waletzky. The results demonstrate that through the storyline, Pukat, the main character, is depicted as a highly skillful and resourceful child who successfully solves a difficult riddle regarding the village's most valuable treasure. Furthermore, the discourse analysis reveals that the novel emphasizes the importance of being noble, competent, and dignified in addition to being intellectually smart. These character values are presented as essential elements in forming resilient individuals and a competitive, dignified, and tolerant nation.
