Abstract

Zahro, Siti Fatimatus. 2024. Exploring Storytelling Technique in Speaking Fluency: A Case Study at LPBA Nurul Jadid. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor: Syaiful Islam, M.Pd.

Keywords: Storytelling Technique, Speaking Fluency, Student Perception.

This study investigates the perceptions and experiences of students at LPBA (Lembaga Pengembangan Bahasa Asing) Nurul Jadid regarding the use of storytelling as a technique to enhance English speaking fluency. The research aims to understand how storytelling influences the development of speaking proficiency—specifically in terms of flow and coherence—and to evaluate its effectiveness as an instructional strategy. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, the researcher gathered in-depth insights through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The participants were students at LPBA Nurul Jadid, an institution recognized for its intensive foreign language programs.

The study revealed several key findings regarding the impact of storytelling on oral fluency. Students generally perceived storytelling as a beneficial and engaging method that fosters their ability to generate ideas and construct sentences more fluidly. The findings indicate that students experienced smoother speech delivery with fewer pauses and hesitations, despite some remaining linguistic challenges. Furthermore, storytelling exposed learners to new vocabulary and correct pronunciation, which significantly contributed to their overall language development. Psychologically, the technique helped build students' confidence, making them more comfortable with public speaking and spontaneous communication. The study concludes that the storytelling technique is a highly effective strategy for enhancing speaking fluency and recommends its broader integration into English language teaching practices.
