The purpose of this thesis is to identify the strategies used by the participant to learn English speaking skills based on his experiennces. To achieve the research objectives, qualitative and narrative inquiry methods were used. The in-depth individual interview was used to collect the data. A graduate of one of the campuses in Probolinggo participated in this research and shared his experiences from when he did not like English and until finally he managed to become the best graduate of the English education study program. Oxford theory 1990 is used as a data analysis tool. The results of this narrative investigation show that, first, the participant had several important experiences to build his interest in English. Second, it was found that the participant only used one type of indirect strategies, namely metacognitive strategies when he learning English at junior high school. Furthermore, it was found that the participant used all types of direct strategies and indirect strategies proposed by Oxford when he studying English at senior high school and undergraduate.
