Abstract
Rosidah, Siti (2022). Students’ Response Toward the Implementation of English Songs in Learning Pronunciation. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department, Nurul Jadid University.Advisor (I): Durratul Hikmah, M.Pd.Advisor (II): Abdullah Al Anis, M.Pd.
Keywords: Students’ Response, Pronunciation, English Song.
Pronunciation remains a significant obstacle for students in English language acquisition, primarily due to the inconsistency between English orthography (writing) and phonology (sound). This challenge was observed at the Foreign Language Development Institution (FLDI), a specialized language unit within the Al-Hasyimiyah dormitory at Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School. Since the institution aims to foster speaking proficiency, mastering accurate pronunciation is essential for the students.
The objective of this research was to investigate students' responses to the implementation of English songs as a tool for learning pronunciation and to identify the underlying factors influencing these responses. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, involving 32 students at FLDI as the research sample. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with all 32 participants, and the qualitative responses were analyzed to draw comprehensive conclusions.
The results of the study indicate that students have a highly positive response toward the use of English songs in pronunciation practice. Participants reported that English songs not only assisted them in mastering correct sounds but also increased their motivation to learn English and enriched their vocabulary. The factors influencing these positive responses were categorized into internal and external factors. Internal factors included intelligence, personal interest, and aptitude, while external factors comprised the influence of the friendship environment and the overall school atmosphere.
