Abstract

Hasanah, Mamluatul. 2023. Students’ View on Using Spotify Application for Vocabulary Mastery. Undergraduate Program, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor (I) Bradhiansyah Tri Suryanto, M. Pd., Advisor (II) Abdullah Al Anis, M. Pd.

Keywords: Spotify Application, Vocabulary Mastery, Students’ View.

This research aims to explore students' views on utilizing the Spotify application for vocabulary mastery. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using observation and semi-structured interviews as the primary data collection instruments. The subjects of this study were eleventh-grade students at MA Al-Husna Dawuhan, Krejengan. From a class of twenty-three, two students who were long-term users of the Spotify application were selected as interview participants. The findings reveal distinct perspectives: the first student demonstrated productive vocabulary development, characterized by an ability to understand, pronounce correctly, and constructively use new words in speaking and writing. In contrast, the second student exhibited receptive vocabulary growth, focusing on recognizing and understanding words while reading or listening through their regular habits on the app. The discussion confirms that students hold positive views toward using Spotify, suggesting that regular use of the application supports English vocabulary mastery and other related language skills. Ultimately, it is concluded that the Spotify application serves as a beneficial tool for students' vocabulary development. The researcher hopes these findings will serve as a valuable resource for future studies on related topics.
