Abstract
Shulhani, Rahmat. 2024. Exploring Students’ Perception of English Learning Challenges: A Case Study at LPBA Nurul Jadid. Undergraduate Program, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor: Mochlis Ekowijayanto, M.Pd.
Keywords: Student Perception, English Learning Challenges, LPBA Nurul Jadid.
This research explores the challenges encountered by students at LPBA (Lembaga Pengembangan Bahasa Asing) Nurul Jadid in learning English. The study aims to investigate students' perceptions of these challenges and identify the specific methods and strategies they employ to overcome them. Utilizing a qualitative research approach with a case study design, the researcher captured the complexity of the learning phenomenon through the individual experiences of LPBA students. Data were analyzed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the obstacles faced within this specialized language institution.
The findings indicate that LPBA students perceive English proficiency as a critical factor for personal and professional success in the modern era. However, they face diverse challenges, including difficulties in achieving native-like fluency, applying English grammar in real-life contexts, and mastering correct pronunciation. Environmental factors, particularly the lack of a fully immersive English-speaking atmosphere, were also identified as significant hindrances. To address these issues, students emphasize consistent practice through various autonomous methods, such as utilizing English songs and movies, engaging in face-to-face interactions, participating in English competitions, and cultivating a daily habit of language use. This study highlights the importance of addressing individual differences and environmental factors in language acquisition, providing valuable insights into effective strategies for fostering student success in a boarding school language center.
