Abstract

Hudzaifah, Ilmiah. 2025. The Experience of Teaching Vocabulary through the Storytelling Method using Flashcard Media. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nurul Jadid University. Advisor: Syaiful Islam, M.Pd.

Keywords: Teacher Experience, Teaching Vocabulary, Storytelling, Flashcards, Narrative Inquiry.

Mastering vocabulary is the foundational step in primary language acquisition, yet it requires engaging and age-appropriate instructional methods to be effective. This study explores a teacher's experience in implementing the storytelling method integrated with flashcard media to teach vocabulary to elementary students at the Raudhatus Shibyan Foundation. Adopting a narrative inquiry design within a qualitative framework, this research seeks to understand the pedagogical reasoning and lived experiences of the practitioner. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation to capture the nuances of the teaching process.

The findings reveal that the teacher perceives storytelling as a vital method for expanding students' vocabulary while providing meaningful context through verbal explanations. The integration of flashcard media serves as a visual anchor that enhances students' mental associations with new words.

Based on the narrative data, the implementation of this combined approach received highly positive responses, creating a dynamic learning environment where stories were tailored to the students' proficiency levels. The study concludes that the synergy between visual aids and narrative-based instruction effectively improves vocabulary retention and engagement in young learners. This research contributes empirical insights into effective EFL strategies for primary education, highlighting the importance of multisensory engagement in early language development.
